Allopurinol: Cautions

To reduce the risk of a gouty arthritis at the beginning of the therapy, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be administered for approximately two months.

In the case of primary hyperuricaemia it is recommended to limit the supply of purine (no more than 100 to 150 g of meat per day), to aim at a normalization of the weight, and to avoid alcohol.
