| Allopurinol: Risk Groups

Pregnant
women: No teratogenic effects are known. Can be administered when indications are adequate.
|
|
Nursing
mothers: Allopurinol and oxypurinol have been detected in breast milk. Only administer when absolutely necessary.
|
|
Children:
Rarely indicated (enzyme
disorders, cancer). Daily dose: 10 to 20 mg/kg, titrated according to
uric acid level.
|
|
Elderly
people: No dose reduction
is necessary if renal function is normal. |
|
Renal
failure: Dose adjustment! Possible scheme: creatinine clearance less than 50 ml/min: 50% of the usual dose. Creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min: 10 to 20% of the usual dose (alternative: greater intervals between doses). |
|
Liver
insufficiency: Reduce dose when insufficiency is advanced. |
