Amoxycillin: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
Can be administered during pregnancy; no particular risks are known.

Nursing mothers:
Only small amounts have been found in breast milk. Can be administered.

Children:
Normal daily dose: 25-100 mg/kg, distributed in two to three doses (duration of therapy for streptococcal pharyngitis: 10 days). Prevention of endocarditis: 50 mg/kg before the intervention; when there is a high risk, administer additional seven doses of 15 mg/kg.

Elderly people:
No adjustment necessary when renal functions are normal.

Renal failure:
Reduce high doses or prolong the intervals (creatinine clearance less 30 ml/min: double interval, less 10 ml/min: triple interval).

Liver insufficiency:
No dose adjustment necessary.
