Aspirin: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
It is better avoided in the last month of pregnancy (increased bleeding risk, closure of the duct of Botallo). Otherwise, probably no risk.

Nursing mothers:
Is excreted through breast milk. Occasional taking is permitted.

Children:
The connection to Reye's Syndrome (encephalopathy and hepatic failure, sometimes fatal) has not been clearly demonstrated. It is better to avoid it in young children with viral infections! As an analgesic: 10 mg/kg/dose.

Elderly people:
Increased risk for stomach and kidneys. Small doses are well tolerated.

Renal failure:
Do not administer as a long term analgesic! Avoid in advanced renal failure.

Liver insufficiency:
Avoid in advanced insufficiency.
