Beclomethasone: Adverse Reactions

Inhaled beclomethasone regularly causes an irritation of the throat, coughing, and hoarseness. Approximately 5% of the treated patients develop candidiasis in the region of the oropharynx or the larynx.

High doses (1500 µg/day) inhibit the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, but clinical consequences hardly become visible. Opinions differ on the potential influence on the growth of children. Similarly, it has not been safely established whether permanently administered inhaled corticosteroids could cause osteoporosis.

All steroid aerosol side-effects can be reduced through the use of a rotacap (spacer).

Nasal irritation, sneezing, and epistaxis can occur after intranasal use.

Beclomethasone: Interactions

Inhaled corticosteroids do not cause any practically relevant interactions.
