Captopril: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
Contraindicated: can cause renal failure in the neonate.

Nursing mothers:
Only small amounts are detectable in breast milk. The manufacturers advise against breast-feeding regardless.

Children:
It is effective in children with hypertension and heart failure. Usual dose: 1 to 3 mg/kg/day.

Elderly people:
Can be given to the elderly. Monitor renal functions and potential hypotension!

Renal failure:
Reduce dose and/or frequency of administration! Cautious dose increase! The daily dose for dialysis patients is 25 to 50 mg.

Liver insufficiency:
No noteworthy problems.
