| Carbamazepine: Risk Groups
|
Pregnant
women: Teratogenic effects are suspected (e.g. cleft spine), but other antiepileptic agents can be even riskier. Do not withdraw antiepileptic agents unpremeditatedly! The plasma levels normally decrease during pregnancy.

Nursing
mothers: Carbamazepine
and carbamazepine epoxide appear in small quantities in breast milk.
Breast-feeding is permitted.

|
Elderly
people: Administer a small initial dose (100 mg twice a day). |
|
Renal
failure: Reduce regular dose by 25% when there is advanced insufficiency. |
|
Liver
