Diclofenac: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
Can be given during the first two trimesters. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents should be avoided in the third trimester.

Nursing mothers:
Allowed in small doses. Only minimal amounts were detected in breast milk.

Children:
Daily dose: 1-3 mg/kg divided into two or three doses. Avoid in children younger than one year (not enough documentation).

Elderly people:
Generally dose adjustment is not necessary. Anti-inflammatory agents cause more side-effects in the elderly.

Renal failure:
No dose adjustment necessary.

Liver insufficiency:
Despite predominantly hepatic elimination a dose adjustment is not necessary.
