Diltiazem: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
Contraindicated. Malformations were observed in animal experiments.

Nursing mothers:
Avoid if possible as relatively high concentrations of diltiazem have been detected in breast milk.

Children:
Practically no available data.

Elderly people:
A dose reduction is recommendable (plasma half-life in the elderly is prolonged).

Renal failure:
No dose adjustment is necessary.

Liver insufficiency:
Daily doses of 90 mg are allowed for patients with a cirrhosis of the liver.
