| Glibenclamide: Risk Groups
Pregnant
women: Even though no teratogenic effects are known, it is not recommended to use sulphonylureas due to the risk of abnormal blood glucose levels in the child; insulin is used instead.
Nursing
mothers: Risk of hypoglycemia
for the neonate: weaning or insulin instead of glibenclamide.
Children:
No indication. Diabetes generally requires insulin treatment in children and youths.
Young children: accidental taking of several tablets is life threatening! |
Elderly
people: Increased risk of hypoglycemia. Initial doses should be kept low, increase dose slowly. Better avoided in old age. |
Renal
failure: A dose reduction is recommended for moderate insufficiency. It is contraindicated for advanced insufficiency. |
Liver
insufficiency: Very cautious dosage (risk of hypoglycemia!); contraindicated when insufficiency is advanced. |
