| Haloperidol: Risk Groups

Pregnant
women: Even though no unambiguous correlation to malformations or long-term neurological problems have been demonstrated, haloperidol should only be given when the indications are urgent.

Nursing
mothers: Haloperidol is excreted in breast milk: better avoided! |
|
Children:
Not recommended before three years of age. Usual daily doses for children: 25 to 50 µg/kg. Between 3 and 12 years: initially 0.5 mg/day, increase slowly and cautiously until therapeutic levels are reached. |
|
Elderly
people: Very cautious dosage is recommended. Initially 0.5 to 1.5 mg/day. Only increase slowly, maximum dose: 2 to 8 mg/day. |
|
Renal
failure: No dose adjustment is necessary. |
|
Liver
insufficiency: Dose reduction is usually recommendable: cautious and individual dosing. |
