| Hydroxyzine: Pharmacology
Hydroxyzine, a piperazine derivative, possesses the typical characteristics of the older sedative histamine H1-antagonists: in addition to its antihistaminic properties, it also has anticholinergic, local anesthetic, and pronounced CNS sedative activities. Like other antihistamines, it also has an antiemetic effect. Furthermore, it also has a certain muscle relaxant effect and it is said to reinforce the effect of analgesics.
