Our Comment:
The significance of the small levothyroxine tablet should not be underestimated. Untreated hypothyroidism and cases treated with excessive levothyroxine doses seem to be quite frequent. As reduced bone density has been observed in many studies with thyroxine, the polemics about the risk of osteoporosis will not stop. Otherwise this is a therapy to which few problems are related. Even if the price of the only preparation available in Switzerland has recently doubled, it is still a rather inexpensive treatment.
