Levodopa: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
High doses cause malformations in animal experiments. Better avoided!

Nursing mothers:
Inhibits lactation and is probably excreted through breast milk: avoid if possible!

Children:
Only very limited experiences. Indication and tolerance are not positively established.

Elderly people:
Very cautious dosage (increased risk of psychiatric and cardiovascular problems). Initial treatment and major readjustments may have to be performed in the hospital.

Renal failure:
No dose adjustment necessary.

Liver insufficiency:
Poor documentation. Has been used for hepatic coma in isolated cases.
