Metoclopramide: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
No known teratogenic effects. Allowed when indications are unambiguous.

Nursing mothers:
Higher concentrations in breast milk than in plasma! Nevertheless, most specialists consider a metoclopramide therapy compatible with breast-feeding.

Children:
Extrapyramidal movement disorders are particularly frequent. Avoid if possible!

Elderly people:
Increased risk of tardive dyskinesias. Avoid long-term administration.

Renal failure:
Dose reduction is indicated (50% for advanced failure).

Liver insufficiency:
50% dose reduction when there is advanced insufficiency.
