Metformin: Cautions

An adequate dietary treatment should be tested before a therapy with oral antidiabetic agents is started. Regular laboratory monitoring of the renal and hepatic functions and (annually) of vitamin B₁₂ status is indicated. Consider acidosis if there is a sudden occurrence or deterioration of nausea and diarrhea!
