Our Comment:
The newer mesalazine preparations (special galenic forms and olsalazine) represent a good alternative to sulphasalazine if the latter causes considerable side-effects. It is not sensible to change the preparation in subjects who tolerate (the relatively inexpensive) sulphasalazine. It is not clear yet if the kinetic differences of the newer drugs have a practical relevance.
