| Midazolam: Pharmacology
Like other benzodiazepines, midazolam, a water-soluble imidazo benzodiazepine, has anxiolytic, sedative and anticonvulsive characteristics. These are based on its bond with receptors in the central nervous system; these receptors cause an increased inhibitory effect of g-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Midazolam is lipid-soluble in physiological pH and it reaches the central nervous system quickly.
