| Midazolam: Risk Groups

Pregnant
women: Even though a correlation between benzodiazepines and malformations is not safely established, midazolam should be avoided if possible.
|
|
Nursing
mothers: Midazolam is eliminated through breast milk: better avoided. |
|
Children:
Usual parenteral single dose: 0.08 to 0.15 mg/kg (maximum of 0.20 mg/kg). 0.35 to 0.45 mg/kg can be given rectally.
|
|
Elderly
people: Greatest care
is indicated in the elderly (and when general condition is impaired):
initially no more than 50% of the usual dose! |
|
Renal
failure: Dose reduction may be indicated (individual adjustment). |
|
Liver
insufficiency: Dose reduction may be indicated (individual adjustment). |
