Netilmicin: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
Avoid if possible! Other aminoglycosides (streptomycin) have caused severe inner ear damages in the fetus.

Nursing mothers:
Only small amounts can be traced in breast milk. Do not breast feed neonates; allowed with older infants.

Children:
Premature births and neonates: 4 to 5 mg/kg daily.
Older infants and children: 2.0 to 2.5 mg/kg every 8 hours.

Elderly people:
No known problems. The adjustment of the dose is not necessary.

Renal failure:
Even moderate insufficiency has its impact! First dose as usual; later individual dosage according to plasma levels.

Liver insufficiency:
No dose adjustment necessary.
