Nifedipine: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
Limited experience; has, however, been used successfully for hypertension.

Nursing mothers:
Is present in breast milk. Risk for child is minor; interrupt nursing for 3 to 4 hours after taking the drug.

Children:
0.25 to 0.5 mg/kg in emergencies. Use adult dose after 14 years of age.

Elderly people:
Orthostatic hypotension, increased angina pectoris especially in the elderly. Cautious dosage and monitoring!

Renal failure:
No dose adjustment necessary.

Liver insufficiency:
Increased nifedipine levels have been observed in connection with cirrhosis of the liver.
