Oxazepam: Pharmacology

Like other benzodiazepines, oxazepam binds to specific receptors in the central nervous system. This causes a reinforced inhibitory action of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurotransmitter. Benzodiazepines have anxiolytic and dose dependent sedative to hypnotic action and are anticonvulsive. They differ mainly in their kinetic properties. Oxazepam has a delayed onset of action and an average duration.
