Oxazepam: Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
Oxazepam is found in breast milk: better avoided.

Nursing mothers:
Should not be given to children younger than 6 and only administered very cautiously to older children.

Children:
Mind longer half-life and dose accordingly! Is tolerated better than other benzodiazepines by elderly subjects.

Elderly people:
Probably no dose adjustment necessary.

Renal failure:
Probably no dose adjustment necessary.

Liver insufficiency:
Even though the metabolism of oxazepam is only marginally affected by liver diseases (only one glucuroniding step) the dose should be determined very cautiously.
