Piroxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug from the oxicam group, blocks prostaglandin synthesis through the inhibition of enzyme cyclo-oxygenase (prostaglandin synthetase). The inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis is probably responsible for the analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effect of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
