| Propranolol: Risk Groups

Pregnant
women: No teratogenic effect is known. However, harmlessness is not safely established. Monitor neonates for symptoms of ß-blockade.

Nursing
mothers: Only small amounts in breast milk. Monitor neonates for symptoms of ß-blockade. |
|
Children:
Individual dosage: 1-4 mg/kg/day in 3 to 4 doses. Intravenous emergency therapy same as for adults. |
|
Elderly
people: Propranolol frequently has a weaker hypotensive effect in the elderly than in younger subjects. |
|
Renal
failure: No dose adjustment necessary. |
|
Liver
insufficiency: Bioavailability increases with liver insufficiency: adjust dose! |
