Psyllium (Ispaghula): Risk Groups

Pregnant women:
Mucilloids are considered the laxatives of choice during pregnancy. No special problems are known.

Nursing mothers:
Can be given. No special problems are known.

Children:
In general laxatives are only rarely indicated for children. Often parents are wrongly worried about infrequent stool frequency. If really necessary, children of 6 years and more receive half the adult dose.

Elderly people:
Sufficient fluid supply must be observed. Individual dosage.

Renal failure:
No special problems are known.

Liver insufficiency:
No special problems are known.
