| Spironolactone: Risk Groups

Pregnant
women: No malformations
are documented in humans. However, in view of the anti-androgenic effect,
spironolactone is better avoided.

Nursing
mothers: The metabolite
canrenone can be traced in small amounts in breast milk. The manufacturer
recommends weaning or avoidance.
|
|
Children:
Usual dose: 1-2 mg/kg/day (rarely indicated). |
|
Elderly
people: Mind risk of hyperkalemia if renal functions are reduced! |
|
Renal
failure: Contraindicated for any form of advanced or quickly progressing renal failure!
|
|
Liver
insufficiency: For the
timely recognition of a metabolic acidosis, the plasma bicarbonate levels
ought to be monitored from time to time.
