| Tamoxifen: Pharmacology
Tamoxifen is a non-steroidal compound that primarily has antiestrogenic action in man but partially also acts as an estrogen agonist. In addition to the antiestrogenic effect, other mechanisms may be responsible for the inhibition of breast tumour cells. In postmenopausal women, tamoxifen (like estrogen) reduces the gonadotrophin levels and it may also have an estrogen-like influence on the bony and lipid metabolism.
