| Timolol: Adverse Reactions
In the area of the eyes, timolol can cause burning, irritation
and deep ocular pain. More rarely, superficial keratitis, decreased corneal
sensitivity and dry eye syndrome.
Amongst the systemic side-effects (even from timolol eye drops!) cardiac
arrhythmias and severe bronchospasms are the most important. However,
timolol can also cause syncopes, cerebrovascular events, heart failure,
depressions, states of confusion and impotence. Actual psychoses, myalgias,
peripheral neuropathies, hypoglycemia, hyperkalemia, joint pain and
skin alterations are uncommon.
Timolol: Interactions
Combined with other cardiovascularly active drugs (e.g. quinidine, digoxin), there is an increased risk of bradycardia, arrhythmias and heart failure. With antidiabetics, including insulin, hypoglycemias (that are subjectively only recognized with difficulty) may develop.
