Our Comment:
Timolol is now associated to glaucoma treatment in such a way that one easily forgets that this was the first beta-blocker which had a documented effect for secondary prevention following a myocardial infarction. In addition to timolol, there are at least four other beta-blockers available for the treatment of glaucomas; none of which is a thoroughly documented as timolol. Even as a non-ophthalmologist, it is good to know that these drugs have proven efficacy in the prevention of glaucomas. However, timolol eye drops almost always cause systemic effects as well.
