Our Comment:
Valproic acid has become accepted as one of the most important antiepileptic drugs. Good anticonvulsant activity and comparatively low central nervous sedation give the substance the edge particularly in the treatment of children and adolescents. However, the drug is not devoid of problems: like other antiepileptic agents, its teratogenic risk represents a particular drawback.
