| Verapamil: Risk Groups

Pregnant
women: Can be given (allowed even for pregnancy hypertension). |
|
Nursing
mothers: Verapamil reaches relatively high concentrations in breast milk but it can be given. |
|
Children:
Neonates/infants: 20 mg orally every 8 to 12 hours (slowly i.v.: 0.1-0.2 mg/kg. Older children: 40 mg every 8 to 12 hours. |
|
Elderly
people: Mind risk of orthostatic hypertension (and potential liver problems). Cautious dosage. |
|
Renal
failure: No problems, no dose adjustment necessary. |
|
Liver
insufficiency: Increased plasma levels and thus reinforced effect when there is liver insufficiency. Start with small dose! |
